paper cow- from flat to herd

This was a personal project to promote my postcards and help people create their own cows. As the cow has become the unofficial mascot of my postcards, I chose to use it to create the animation. I chose to make a stop frame animation of my cow making it’s self so it will be clear to anyone making one how it’s done, while being more interesting than a basic tutorial movie.

The illustrations below are examples of some of the elements created for the animation, as well as some of the ‘test’ movies created in after effects.

This is the storyboard for a stop frame animation using my design, cut-out and make postcards. Due to the response to the postcards I wanted to show how they are made. But, I didn’t want to make just a quick tutorial movie. I wanted to tell a story, which would give my cows a life of their own. In the end I have the cow making itself and creating it’s own paper cow herd, within it’s own paper world.

I was lucky enough to complete a internship with Creative Orchestra for 3 months, working on a various design projects. It was a a bit of a learning curve and a lot of hard work but I loved every minute of it. So, this little personal project is just my way of saying thankyou ;)

As I wanted to say thanks to everyone at the studio for their help and cows seem to be the unofficial mascot of Creative Orchestra. I ended up creating these design, cut out and make postcards. The idea is that people can draw any design on their cow, then cut it out and turn it into a paper model! And in turn, have a nice little toy for their desks.But the response to my postcards was bigger than I expected, so I have since added a pig, dog, cat, rabbit, fox, tiger and a bat!

It’s not very often I get to return to my fine art roots, but I enjoy it, when the occasion calls for it. So this project, was a welcome change to produce an art piece rather than an illustrative piece.

This was a private commission, for a client who wanted a one of piece for their apartment. The brief was create an art piece that had a quiet feel, almost like a sense of silence. After playing around with ideas, Lizzie was created but left largely un-worked as the client liked the ‘rough feel’ of the piece.

These are badges I designed for eyedea for their 2009 collection.

I love doing these, I can play around with an all manner doodles as long as they are eyes and use the company’s colours. The 2009 collection were mainly retro comic book eyes and monster eyes. We also introduced a sci-fi navi eye which worked better than expected once printed!

So, show your eyedea love and get a badge or two ;)

eyedea & erskine wall swap

This was a personal project for both eyedea and erskine design. Erskine design set a brief called wallswaps, were anyone could send them something and in return they received a birdie badge.

As, I’m a member of the eyedea collective and wanted a badge the eyedea post box was born.

So, here it is! A briefcase style box, holding our lovely moo business cards, badges and the eyedea cyclops thing. All graphics were kept along the organic feel, (cause that’s what we like) with lots of shades of green (cause we like that to).

This a re-design of the previous website for Smugglers Rest Guest House based in newquay. The brief was to create a new look for the site with softer colours and while showing what the guest house has to offer.

This is portfolio website for artist Kalvin Collins. The brief was to create a nice clean site with a simple navigation. As Kalvin’s work is extremely bright I chose to focus on the mosaic element contained through out most of Kalvins work. I also wanted to keep it fun by adding bright colours and an interesting menu while still showing Kalvin’s work at it’s best.

This was my first client website which I have thoroughly enjoyed as it allowed me to put my new design and coding skills into practice and learn a lot more.

Siddel seed packet

This was one of those little projects, you can’t really pass up. I love the idea of working of projects that focus on current green ideals. So I was more than happy to donate my time and doodles for a good cause.

I was asked by a local artist to produce the graphics for an seed packet. A local company supplied the seeds and another supplied the printing. The idea was to give these out at his exhibition in return for a small donation, to help preserve local wild flowers. They were nicknamed ‘Siddal seeds’ after Lizzie Siddal the model for Millais Ophelia. It was the artists favorite painting and somehow the name stuck.

It was a fun project, because at the heart it is for a good cause and it was great to see how excited some of the children that came to the show were about growing their sunflowers.
